If you are anything like me, summer is our best friend! I love the warm rays on my skin, being able to wear bright, summery clothes as well as feeling physically and mentally healthy! However, as soon as the slightest chill is in the air, I am the first to run to the nearest radiator. Being a South African girl, my friends like to tease me that as soon as the weather turns, my “Eskimo” outfit comes out, regardless of it being 14 degrees and not even winter!

On a more serious note, how can we cope when the nights start drawing in and the skies become grey? Many people get affected by Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D) which can plunge many people into hiding or face a real difficulty in coping through the cold dark months. We also start to feel sluggish and our bodies can get a battering from the central heating and lack of nourishing Vitamin D! I have compiled a Winter Survival Guide on the best ways I have found to have a more positive experience in winter and how ThetaHealing™ can help you to overcome S.A.D!

Banish the winter blues with ThetaHealing™!

I will be the first to admit that when I moved over from South Africa, the British winter was a complete shock to the system. Going from the sweltering African heat to the drizzly, misty English days. I would suffer badly from S.A.D and it was something I dreaded every single year. However, I soon realised that this was purely a symptom of underlying emotional challenges that I needed to address and once I experienced ThetaHealing™ for myself, I can safely say that I can now see the beauty of winter!

What is S.A.D?
This is known as Seasonal Affective Disorder and is a form of depression that occurs during the winter season. The symptoms attributed to this are very similar to depression by way of low moods and an inability to find enjoyment and motivation in life, you also feel more lethargic and want to sleep more than usual. It is said that some people may be affected by the lack of sunlight which stimulates the production of both melatonin and serotonin and as a result, feelings of depression can be exacerbated.

How can ThetaHealing™ help you to overcome S.A.D?
Having one-to-one ThetaHealing™ sessions with me, can help you to realise and overcome the feelings of depression. As this therapy solely works on addressing suppressed memories and beliefs held within the subconscious, we are able to identify the earliest events in your life that have been the foundation for all your negative beliefs and low feelings of either rejection, lack of self-worth or feeling unloved. The aim of each session is to help you to release the heavy toxic emotions attached to traumatic or difficult life events so that you come out of that space of emotional vulnerability. You are then better equipped to face life with a renewed sense of vigour, confidence and in turn, a new found strength to make great life changes.

Beat body and skin fatigue!

I am a firm believer that healthy and glowing skin comes from within. A healthy diet, exercise and good, natural and nourishing beauty products all contribute to you feeling happy. Here are a few of my health and beauty tips that I have found to work for me.

Health ~ I love starting off my morning with a mug of hot water and lots of fresh lemon squeezed in. This helps to detox and alkalise the body first thing! Although we may think lemon is acidic it is actually one of the best natural ways to alkalise a really acidic body. It helps to keep my skin looking fresh, healthy and spot free! I also find that having a bowl of porridge with cinnamon, flax seeds, crushed almonds and a few blueberries keep me feeling full and less likely to over indulge in stodgy and unhealthy foods. I have always taken high quality multivitamin supplements and even more so during the winter months when the body needs more support, especially if you are susceptible to feeling low.

Beauty ~ It is extremely tempting to indulge in a luxurious bath every night in the winter, if you have the time that is. However, this can be extremely drying to the skin but having a soak once or twice a week can be incredibly soothing. I love adding natural bath salts with Rose and Geranium essential oils to my bath as this is an amazing treat for the body and mind! The natural salts help to detox the body and the essential oils can help to nourish the skin and create feelings of harmony and balance. I love using products that are chemical free but that smell great though I am not too keen on smelling like a herb box. My favourite face oil that I like to use during winter is Grape seed oil with a dash of either Lavender or Orange essential oil. It helps to invigorate my skin and my senses and it is wonderful for restoring elasticity. This is great underneath make up, but only if you have dry skin!

Body ~ As tempting as it may be to hide in doors and enjoy a snack fest on delicious treats, it is vital that we get our body moving during the winter months, this is especially important for maintaining a healthy mind-set. I have recently found a great form of yoga called Kundalini Yoga, which is perfect for clearing stagnant energy in the body and in turn, helps you to feel healthier and calm. Whilst the thought of doing a full blown cardio session is not overly tempting at this time of year, combining gentle toning exercises with a brisk walk or the occasional run, is highly beneficial for the body, mind and soul!

Liz Alexander - Theta Healing

Author: Liz Alexander

I studied English Literature and Linguistics at University and found myself immersed in the corporate world of finance in London. After 5 years of working an extremely fast paced and stressful lifestyle, anxiety got the better of me and I realised that a drastic change was in order. I found out about ThetaHealing™ and my life changed dramatically within a year of starting sessions. I was faced with difficult choices that would ultimately lead me to the “utopia” I was looking for, simply put, to wake up feeling excited about my day rather than sheer dread. I embarked on a massive career change to become a ThetaHealing™ practitioner with my own business, with the sole purpose of helping as many people as possible to find their true joy and happiness in life again! My philosophy is that whilst life may throw us a few challenges, we all have the potential to be lucky enough to find our soul mate, dream career or to be anxiety free, we just have to take the plunge and address the things that need to change! My aim is to show people that therapy can be invigorating and life changing, rather than a daunting and negative experience.
